Laurina Paperina is a human-headed duck, but also vice versa. She paints, draws, creates art installations, video animations and this year, together with Cellar Contemporary, tackles a new artistic challenge by giving birth to an additional shade of her style and creativity.
Starting from an everyday item such as an ashtray, the artist brings in her universe a “guilty pleasure” shared by many humans. She turns it not only in an object of art, realized in two limited editions, but also in a medium, bearer of a provocative and irreverent message, typical of the artist.
This year two new main characters from Laurina Paperina’s world are born, they are rounded and colourful: because with her not everything is what it seems.
“This is not an Ashtray” and “I Forgive You”, the two artist’s ashtrays, 50 and 50, for a total of a 100 pieces exclusively for Cellar Contemporary , sign a new connection between Laurina and her public, emphasizing even more the artist’s irony in front of a popular and shared sin: smoking.

I FORGIVE YOU
The Pink Ashtray
The artist plays the role of a virtual figure, of a true goddes, who forgives the hman beings for their sin and who reminds them of the consequences. For this reason, the tile "I Forgive You".
With the series of works called "How To Kill the Artist", from 2007 Laurina Paperina made herself well-known by many. Year by year fed her personal parallel world, but above all, she brought forward a very important message for her and for her art. A true and proper revenge against the contemporary art and those artists that are at the peak of success and are therefore praised by the critics. The artist does not pardon her colleagues, as we can see in “How To Kill The Artists”, but with the two ashtrays, “I Forgive You” and “This is not an Ashtray” pardons the human being for his and her sins.
A provocative furnishing element that, with its soft colours and generous dimensions, reminds us once again the irony and the sarcasm of this artist.
